Ramos tests positive for Covid-19

Sergio Ramos has tested positive for Covid-19 ahead of Real Madrid's second leg clash with Liverpool in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, Goal reported.

The Blancos missed the first leg of the tie last week due to a calf injury, but Zinedine Zidane's side were still able to secure an impressive 3-1 victory in his absence.

Madrid will have to make do without Ramos once again at Anfield on Tuesday night as they seek to book their place in the last four, with the Spaniard having been diagnosed with coronavirus after the club's latest round of medical checks.

The club released a statement to confirm that the experienced defender had returned a positive result in the latest round of testing.

The statement reads: "Real Madrid CF announces that our player Sergio Ramos has given a positive result in the last Covid-19 test that has been carried out."

Ramos is now set to enter a period of self-isolation, in compliance with Spanish health advice and guidelines.

He will not be able to return to the club's facilities until he returns a negative test for the virus.

He is the second player to test positive for the virus at the club in recent times following his central defensive partner Raphael Varane.

Ramos is currently injured and had already been ruled out of Real's Champions League quarter-final second leg away to Liverpool on Wednesday.

Ramos is out of contract in the Spanish capital in less than three months time and his future at the club remains uncertain, with his deal expiring on 30 June.
