The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Nazmul Hassan Papon said that it is difficult now to host the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) until and unless it can ensure the players' safety.
Hassan said, "Given the situation now, it is difficult to host the DPL. It won't be the best decision. There will be no DPL until and unless there is a bio-secure bubble having all the players."
"We in the BCB are trying. If I am convinced that we can go on and ensure a bio-bubble, then we might start. But it is almost impossible," He added.
The DPL, the premier List A tournament in Bangladesh, was suspended after the first round last year as soon as Covid-19 hit Bangladesh.
The BCB announced the start of the Premier League on March 14.
Kazi Inam Ahmed, chairman of the Cricket Committee of Metropolis (CCDM), said the Premier League would start on May 8.
Although the name of the tournament would remain the same, the format was supposed to change.
The tournament, which has been held in ODI format for so long, was supposed to be held in T20 format this time.
