Chrissy Teigen's apology to Courtney Stodden for trolling apparently was just the tip of the iceberg. On Monday, she shared a lengthy Medium piece where she talked about her "Very humbling few weeks."

"I know I've been quiet, and lord knows you don't want to hear about me, but I want you to know I've been sitting in a hole of deserved global punishment, the ultimate sit here and think about what you've done," Teigen wrote, stating her regret at the things she said.

Last month, Stodden went public with Teigen being cruel to them on social media years ago after Stodden married the 50-year-old actor Doug Hutchison. Stodden also told the Daily Beast that Teigen used to offend her in private messages, instigating her to commit suicide. Teigen has now apologised to Stodden, who has since gotten divorced from Hutchison.

Citing that she is truly ashamed, Teigen said she understood the hurt her words caused. And so she has been reaching out privately to those she was mean to. She said those victims needed her empathy and support not her meanness with an edgy humour.

"I was a troll, full stop," Teigen said. "And I am so sorry."

The backlash on social media has been massive and resulted in Teigen tweeting an apology on 12 May. In the piece published Monday, Teigen stated she wanted to apologise for snarking at some celebrities through her jokes and random observations.

She said her hunger for attention and insecurity made her take it to twitter. She thought it made her relatable and witty when she poked harmless remarks at celebrities.

Teigen said she wrote her piece to provide context, not to portray herself as a victim. She has grown since then and has been on the receiving end of enough trolling to understand the damage she has done.

"I'm more understanding of what motivates trolling -- the instant gratification that you get from lashing out and clapping back, throwing rocks at someone you think is invincible because they're famous."
