BBC Asian Network will feature popular actress Nusraat Faria in their one year-long programme to commemorate Bangladesh's 50th year of independence.

The programme will highlight 50 young people who have all excelled in their professions and careers. They will talk about how their Bangladeshi culture keep them rooted while staying abroad.

I am very glad to be a part of this. Shared my childhood and current stories.. Clink on the linkhttps://t.co/sZ0gfOSstx@bbcasiannetwork @BBCSounds pic.twitter.com/x8mJlKD7Oh— Faria (@NusraatFaria) March 26, 2021

The list consisting of Bangladeshi-British citizen includes Bangladeshi born Nusraat Faria as she had studied law from the University of London, reports Bangla Tribune.

Nusraat Faria was ecstatic about her involvement with the BBC Asian programme.

She said, "It's an honour for me to be part of this event. Most of the young people who are involved with the programme are from UK. I am really glad that my name was added to the list of such young and successful people."

Head of Asian Network, Ahmed Hussain said, "As one of the youngest and fastest-growing demographics in the UK, it is only right that we celebrate and champion the Bengali story. We're not only looking back at 50 years of independence but also what is yet to come in the next 50."

"There is still a generation of people who remember the fight for the independence of Bangladesh so we'll be making sure that that story is told for the world to hear and understand 50 years on," added Hussain.

The program which started on 22 March showcased host Bobby Friction interviewing rapper and Hip-hop pioneer Anik Khan. Anik talked about his immigration journey and growing up in the Desi community in New York.

On 26 march, Asian Network Breakfast with Harpz Kaur featured a live music session with Joy Crooke who gave her first-ever live performance in Bengali.

BBC Sounds will showcase a six-part series featuring Bengali artists and influencers. Actress Nusraat Faria, activist Nabela Noor, Brit-Bengali star Nish and content creator SMASHBengali will each curate their own playlist and share their favourite soundtracks.

The programme will also feature dancer Akram Khan, comedian Ali Shah Alam (known on stage as Ali Official), British TV chef and TV presenter Nadia Hussain, Mumzy Stranger and others.
