Work from home jobs are on the rise and social distancing is only accelerating this trend. While employees hunker down in their newly-thrown-together home offices, one thing we might see from Covid-19 is how remote work can be successful on a large scale.

And the popularity does make sense. Why should someone have to sit through rush hour traffic and go to an office when all they need is a computer and internet connection?

The demand for online jobs is not going to fade away anytime soon. And in an era where income is on the decline and traditional work policies change day-to-day, the opportunity to earn from the internet could be exactly what you need right now.

Whether your goal is to work part-time to build your savings or generate a full-time income while working from home, online jobs can provide serious flexibility that most traditional workers will never experience.

If you were thinking about giving this work-from-home thing a shot, you are in luck because The Business Standard has rounded up everything you need to know to help you explore your options.

Here is a list of the five best work-from-home jobs you could try in 2021.

1. Digital marketing freelancer

Online and digital marketing jobs are in high demand. With advances in globalization, we are currently witnessing an upsurge in companies outsourcing their digital marketing functions – and you do not need a formal degree for digital marketing if you have experience and skills when you are freelancing.

This is a perfect job for your creative chops and analytics skills to help businesses grow their online presence. And you can do it from the comfort of your home by tagging along with a company as a freelancer or running your own digital marketing assistance brand.

Like the rest of the world, digital marketing is picking up in Bangladesh. On the one hand, companies can save extra money and unnecessary headaches by hiring freelancers. They do not have to hire a skilled team for each department when they can outsource them.

On the other hand, those willing to work from home can get more lucrative opportunities. One can work on many different disciples of digital marketing from home, like content marketing, Search Engine Optimization (SEO), content calendars and project management, data analysis, consumer behavior, conservation rate optimization (CRO), etc.

All you need is the internet, analytic skills, and a good understanding of digital customers.

2. Online coach and consultant

Online coach or consultancy is another great option for an online job. With the rise of e-Learning and remote work, it is a great time to enter this field.

You can easily set up a consultancy agency if you are specialized in a certain field. For example, if you are an accountant or lawyer, you can provide advice to small businesses. You could also consult businesses on how to use a new software program or how to become more environmentally friendly.

You can also provide coaching for your specialized skills, like teaching, English speaking, baking, etc. With your teaching skills, you can also apply for online teaching jobs that require you to tutor students from all over the world.

3. Freelance writer and editor

Writing is one of the most popular work-from-home jobs in recent years. No matter what you do and where you go, content is everywhere.

If you are a good writer, you can apply to write for companies, blogs, magazines, journals and even newspapers that publish their content online.

Now more than ever, freelance writers are hired to create a wide variety of content for online and offline use. Some of the things you may write include news articles, website pages, sales materials, research reports, customer emails, resume writing, books, and a variety of other exciting stuff.

Freelance writing is one of those online jobs that pay well because there is a big need for writers, as more and more companies aim to provide quality content to their audiences.

Even though many major websites and businesses have their in-house writers, there is a growing number of sites continually looking to hire freelance writers. Before trying your luck, make sure that you have a portfolio so employers can assess your writing skills right off the bat.

4. Digital content designer

Graphics designing, video or audio editing, web development and animation are parts of digital content. With the upsurge of digital marketing and social media, demand for digital content is only increasing.

While most people can edit simple videos, it takes an expert to put together an amazing short. With the expertise, you can make video and audio content and sell them. You can also give freelance support to different companies for making their content.

If you are adept at using various Photoshop and Illustrator tools, and have an innate sense of creativity, then you should not think twice before foraying into graphic design. You do not need a diploma or a degree in graphic design to pursue this career. You can do well enough by educating yourself at home by taking up credible online courses.

And if you are able to create animation and visual effects for television, movies, video games, and other types of media, you can work as a freelance animator from home as well.

Just like content, web design has its takers too. There are many online courses, website building tools, templates and resources to help you learn it without much effort. You can exploit this and make a living from it.

5. Social media manager

There is a lot of work required when you are handling an entire business. With many things to take care of, social media also needs managing as people engage with the brand 24/7.

You can offer to help with managing a brand's social media and get paid for it. E-commerce sites, Facebook pages, even those of celebrities and influencers, need proper social media management and most tend to outsource the help or hire someone to handle it.

If you have some experience in running campaigns on social media platforms, you could sign up to manage social media accounts on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, etc.

Many businesses do not want to or do not know how to manage their social media accounts. However, you can profit off of it if you know the basics of digital marketing. All you need to do is brush yourself up on the latest trends.

Most of the requirements would mean handling customer feedback and engagement on social media. Apart from this, you would have to engage in designing and posting content for maximum social media reach and engagement.
