The Department of Environment (DoE) has fined Eastern Refinery Ltd Tk73.3 lakh for polluting the Karnaphuli River.

Nur Ullah Nuri, director of DoE (Chattogram Metro), penalized the oil refinery during a hearing at the DoE office on Thursday.

Eastern Refinery Ltd, located in the port city's Patenga area, has been polluting the river for long ignoring the directives and instructions of Department of Environment.

Previously on February 9, a team of DoE led by Nur Ullah conducted a drive at the oil refinery and collected samples from a drain near the oil refinery with liquid waste.
