Prominent businessman and social activist Kaus Miah has received the award for best taxpayer of Mujib Borsho.

Hakimpuri Jarda owner Kaus Miah has been selected as the sole top taxpayer of Mujib Borsho for his outstanding contribution to the national revenue sector as well as for attaining the award the most number of times.

Abu Hena Md Rahmatul Muneem, chairman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR), officially handed over the honorary memento, testimonial and crest to Kaus Miah in the NBR conference room on Friday.

Addressing the programme, Kaus Miah said, "I am grateful to the government for giving me this honor."

"I have come to the present position after conducting business honestly for a long time.  You will pray for me so that I can walk the path in the rest of my life. Thanks everyone," he also said.

Kaus Miah has retained the position of the best taxpayer under the businessman category for the last few years in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the revenue sector.

In the 2016-17 tax year, he has been honored as the Tax Bahadur Family of Dhaka district.

Kaus Miah has been paying taxes since 1958. In 1966, he became the top taxpayer in then-East Pakistan.

He began his business in 1950 with just Tk2,500. The value of his wealth comprising businesses and land is now around Tk10,000 crore, according to Kaus Miah.

Kaus Miah is unique in that he has been running his business with his own assets for a long time – without taking loans from a bank, financial institution or any other institution – and paying taxes regularly at his own initiative.

Additionally, Kaus Miah is involved in various social activities and he is also a pioneer in social responsibility.
