Following a 13% price hike in international and domestic markets last month, the government revised sugar prices on Thursday.
The maximum retail price for non-brand sugar has been fixed at Tk74 per kg and packed sugar at Tk75 per kg, according to Bangladesh Sugar Refiners Association.
The revision in price comes following a meeting between the Bangladesh Trade and Tariff Commission and sugar traders on the instructions of the Commerce Ministry.
At present, unpacked sugar is being sold at Tk78-80 and packed sugar at Tk80-86 per kg, which is 26% higher compared to last year.
According to Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) market research data, the price of sugar has risen by about 13% in the last month.
