Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal has proposed to extend the tax exemption benefit for 22 Information Technology Enabled Services (ITES) in the proposed budget for the 2021-22 financial year.
"The existing tax exemption provided to the ICT sector needs to be further expanded in order to take the government's vision of building a digital Bangladesh one step forward. I propose to further expand the existing 22 ITES heads enjoying tax exemption in this budget," he said while unveiling a new budget proposal at the National Parliament.
The proposed exemption will be applicable for cloud service, system integration, e-learning platform, e-book publications, mobile application development service and IT freelancing until 2024.
The minister noted that this will give impetus to the digital transformation process of Bangladesh and will make modern digital services easily available to the citizens at a low cost.
AHM Mustafa Kamal further proposed to offer tax exemption for 10 years on production of some selective IT hardware if manufactured in Bangladesh subject to certain conditions.
