SCB wins ‘Best International Bank in Bangladesh’ award

Standard Chartered Bank Bangladesh has recently been recognised as the 'Best International Bank in Bangladesh' in FinanceAsia Awards 2021.

The bank received the award for eleventh time since 2009. This is the fifth major international award the Bank has achieved in the first quarter of 2021, said a press release.

FinanceAsia is Asia's authoritative source for finance, investment banking, economic and capital markets news. Founded in 1996, the publication engages with audience consisting of corporate CFOs and CEOs, bank and broker executives, portfolio managers and service providers. Each year, The Financeasia Awards recognises the best performing banks across the region.

Naser Ezaz Bijoy, Chief Executive Officer, Standard Chartered Bangladesh said, "This award is a testament to this commitment, and I would like to thank our clients, regulators and the wider ecosystem for making this achievement possible. After a decade of stellar progress, this is the time for Bangladesh to embark on the next phase of its journey of progress and prosperity, and it is our privilege to stand beside Bangladesh in this exciting new chapter."

"We are also delighted to have recently won the prestigious Best Islamic Bank for Digital CX (customer experience) - Bangladesh Award by the Digital Banker, which is recognition of our drive to leverage enhanced technology to deliver a superior customer experience, serving the continuously evolving needs of our valued clients.", he added.

Since pioneering in 1997, the capital markets unit of Standard Chartered Bank has arranged over USD 7 Billion equivalent local and foreign currency in Power, Telecommunication, Infrastructure, Food & Beverage, Textile, Service and other key sectors. The bank has pioneered a number of financial firsts – including FX option in 2006, commodity derivative in 2008, interest rate derivative in 2009, and Zero Coupon Islamic Certificate Issuance in 2019.

Beyond supporting the nation's economic progress and development through its core business of banking, the Bank stood by grassroot communities across Bangladesh fight the Covid-19 pandemic. The Bank's initiatives focused both immediate assistance and life-saving medical intervention, while working towards longer-term recovery through skills development and workforce reintegration. These initiatives combined saw the Bank recognised as the international bank with the highest CSR spend in 2020 by Bangladesh Bank.

In 2020, the Bank's commitment support Bangladesh's continued journey of prosperity saw the bank secure 25 major international awards. The bank has been recognized as the 'Best Foreign Bank Commercial Bank in Bangladesh' by FinanceAsia, Best International Bank in Bangladesh by Euromoney and 'Bank of the Year' in Bangladesh by The Banker a number of times over a number of years, and have also won a host of awards in other categories.
