Agrow Award will recognise the best performing individuals and institutions for their significant contributions to the agriculture sector of the country

Standard Chartered Bank, Bangladesh and Channel i have jointly announced the launch of Standard Chartered-Channel i Agrow Award 2020.

The announcement was made at a press conference held at a Dhaka hotel recently, says a press release issued on Thursday.

Agrow Award will recognise the best performing individuals and institutions for their significant contributions to the agriculture sector of the country. 

This year, two new award categories have been introduced which are Best Journalist (Agriculture) and Best Community as Disaster Fighter. 

Nominations will also be accepted in the following eight categories: Farmer of the Year – Male; Farmer of the Year – Female; Heroes for  Change; Jury Special; Best Agricultural Organization in Research, Innovation and Technology; Best  Agricultural Organization in Support & Execution; Best Agricultural Exporter and Lifetime Achievement  Award. 

Naser Ezaz Bijoy, chief executive officer at Standard Chartered Bank, Faridur Reza Sagar, managing director of Channel i, Shykh Seraj, director and head of news at Channel i, Bitopi Das Chowdhury, head of corporate affairs at Standard Chartered Bank, were present on the launching event. 

Speaking at the press conference, Naser Ezaz Bijoy, said, "Farmers are the real heroes in our country. Agrow Award aims to support and enable the real heroes on the ground who, through their innovations, courage and dedicated efforts, are driving this sector forward. We are proud of being part of this initiative with Channel i."

Faridur Reza Sagar, managing director of Channel i, said, "The world is now realising how important the agriculture in time of the Covid-19 pandemic. We now have to promote the agro sector for our own survival." 

"We have to honour farmers. Channel i feels pride in being a part of this initiative," he added.

Shykh Seraj, Director and Head of News of Channel I, said, "It is not possible to wholly recognise the contribution of farmers to the national economy with any award or crest. But we firmly believe that the Standard Chartered - Channel i Agrow Award plays a role to keep up the success of our farmers and this sector."

Standard Chartered - Channel i Agrow Award 2020 is the sixth episode of this kind. Till date, there have been 34 award winners.
