Stranded Saint Martin tourists return safely
Cyclone Bulbul left around 1,200 tourists stranded on the island since Thursday
The tourists who were stranded on Saint Martin's Island for four days because of Cyclone Bulbul, returned to Teknaf safely on Monday.
They arrived at Damdamia Ghat in Teknaf in the afternoon on two vessels, said Shah Alam, manager of the Keari Cruise and Dine, to The Business Standard.
On Monday, the Keari Sindbad and the Keari Cruise and Dine left Teknaf for the island around 9.30am after getting the go-ahead from the district administration.
Most of the tourists returned on board the two vessels.
Some tourists risked their lives to return to Teknaf on fishing boats. More than 150 tourists and some local people returned on four speedboats and three wooden fishing boats around noon.
Abdur Rahman, assistant meteorologist of the Cox's Bazar Met Office said, "All signals have been brought down from 9am this morning. Water vessels can move normally now."
Around 1,200 tourists were stranded on St Martin's Island since Thursday as ferry services between Teknaf and Saint Martin's Island were suspended due to adverse weather ahead of Cyclone Bulbul.
