People’s lives and livelihoods must be protected: Information Minister
It has been a month since all activities in the country are closed, but not a single person in Bangladesh has died in starvation
The government has to protect the lives and livelihoods of the people during the crisis caused by the Covid-19 outbreak, said Information Minister Hasan Mahmud at a press briefing at Chittagong Circuit House on Thursday afternoon after a meeting on coordinating relief and other issues to address the situation caused by Covid-19.
Under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the minister said, there are 17 million tonnes of food in stock. Already, one lakh tonnes of food have been distributed and another six lakh tonnes of food grains have been allotted.
The government has made extensive preparations for the upcoming situation including the worst one, he said further.

Apart from government assistance, public representatives and Awami League leaders, and wealthy people are helping people to cope the situation, he added.
Many online news portals have published that the government made separate arrangements for the treatment of VIPs, which is not correct, and those who have served this kind of news without checking have shown irresponsibility, the minister said in response to a question from the reporters.
Member of parliaments Anisul Islam Mahmud Chowdhury, ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury, Moslem Uddin Ahmed, Nazibul Bashar Maizbhandari, Mostafizur Rahman, Abu Reza Nadvi, Wasika Ayesha Khanam, Khadijatul Anwar Soni, and Division Azad were present at the coordination meeting among others.
