Against the backdrop of the recent spike in coronavirus infections and deaths, the Prime Minister's Office on Thursday ordered the authorities concerned to ensure more oxygen supply and Covid beds in hospitals across the country.
They also have to make sure strict compliance with the health protocols and isolation of the infected, the PMO said.
Dr Ahmad Kaikaus, principal secretary to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, held a videoconference with high-level administrative officials of all districts over the current Covid-19 situation.
During the meeting, he talked about urgent and ongoing actions to protect public health from the deadly virus. Kaikaus also requested those with Covid symptoms to self-isolate in their homes.
The latest daily Covid death toll was 199 on Thursday, a day after the country saw the figure cross the mark of two hundred for the first time.
Moreover, 11,651 more people were diagnosed positive with the virus, setting a new record, according to the latest bulletin of the health directorate.
The total number of deaths from Covid-19 reached 15,792 and infections 989,219.
The first week of July is the deadliest with 1,090 lives lost since the pandemic broke out in the country.
As the third wave sweeps across the country with an explosion of Covid infections, people even below 30 years are falling severely ill in large numbers with the coronavirus, a sign that clearly stands out from the previous two waves of the pandemic.
Public health experts said the infection and fatality curves might come down after a couple of weeks.
