Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Additional Deputy Commissioner and Coronavirus Test Coordinator Mishu Biswas have tested positive with Covid-19.

"I have been working as the coordinator from the beginning. I directly came into contact with 150/200 of my colleagues every day on average and arranged their tests in person," Mishu Biswas told The Business Standard.

"I accepted that I may also come positive from the beginning. Earlier, I gave samples for coronavirus test 3 times after showed several symptoms. All of the test results came negative. But I was tested positive the fourth time," he added.

"I see hundreds of colleagues being tested positive every day in front of my eyes.  I have lost 11 colleagues of mine so far," he added.

Nonetheless, Mishu Biswas kept doing his job in an attempt to save the lives of his colleagues.

Mishu Biswas said that it is necessary to separate the coronavirus positive and negative members in order to protect the people of the country.

"I have been doing that work from the beginning as DMP's Corona Test Coordinator," he said.

"We have made a quick test by listing those who have symptoms from each division of DMP, and we have made arrangements to take those who are positive to the hospital quickly," he added.

DMP is currently working on a database to manage the information of the affected members of DMP.

"I have worked with Covid-19 information management software. The software will provide information on all affected members of the DMP.  Find out who is in which hospital or quarantine centre," he said, adding that he hopes to get well soon and return to his job.

The number of positive coronavirus cases in police across the country stood at 3,248 as of Friday. Of them, 1,277 are in DMP.

Meanwhile, 11 policemen died with Covid-19.

Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG-Media) Sohail Rana said that more than two lakh police personnel are on duty in the field to protect the general public from coronavirus infection. Many members are being infected while doing this.
