The families of two nurses in Dinajpur, who died after contracting Covid-19, received Tk37.50 lakh each as financial support from the government.
Nurse Rahima Khatun, and nursing instructor Amina Khatun, contracted the deadly virus while providing healthcare services amid the pandemic.
Rahima died on 2 November last year and Amina breathed her last on 12 November while undergoing treatment at M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital.
Iqbalur Rahim, MP from Dinajpur-3 (Sadar) constituency and national parliament whip, distributed the two checks totaling Tk75 lakh, to their families on Tuesday.
He said this nation will never forget its health workers who are dying while serving Covid-19 patients.
Shahadat Hussain, husband of Rahima, and Jahangir Alam, husband of Amina, received the checks.
The Health Services Division of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare issued the compensation checks in favor of the husbands of the two nursing instructors who died of coronary heart disease complications brought on by Covid-19.
This expenditure will be met from a special grant of Tk500 crore allocated under the 2020-2021 fiscal year budget of the Finance Division to cover Covid-19 related health risks.
