Covid-19 at limited community transmission level in 2 areas: IEDCR

The novel coronavirus has spread to a limited community transmission level in two areas of Bangladesh.

Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) Director Professor Dr Meerjady Sabrina Flora made the disclosure in a press briefing today.

While answering to a question about the community transmission of the virus, she said, "We investigated in two cases. The source of the infection has not been confirmed yet there. That is why, we are assuming that, the transmission may occurred at a limited community level. But I can't say if it is community transmission or not, without analysing the detailed information."

"We are mentioning about a place, where local transmission may occurred, so we took a initiative by isolating the place socially to prevent it. But community transmission is not occurred across the country still now," she added.

IEDCR confirmed first death from coronavirus infection on March 18, second on March 21, third on March 23, fourth death on March 24 and fifth one today. The total number of infected patients is now 39 in the country.
