Five others won consolation prizes

A total of 14 Bangladeshi companies have received awards – and five others won consolation prizes – at the South Asian Federation of Accountants (Safa) Best Presented Annual Reports Award.

Orion Pharma Limited, Bank Asia Limited, Reliance Insurance Limited, IDLC Finance Limited, Grameenphone Limited and Golden Harvest Agro Industries Limited are among those that have received awards.

Reliance Insurance was awarded as the overall winner.

The companies received awards from Muhammad Farooq, president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB), AKM Delwer Hussain, vice-president of Safa, and Mohammed Humayun Kabir, an ICAB council member.

On Wednesday, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka) virtually organised the Safa Best Presented Annual Reports Award, Integrated Reporting Award and the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (Saarc) Anniversary Award for Corporate Governance Disclosures 2019.

Bangladeshi companies attended the ceremony at the ICAB Auditorium in the capital's CA Bhaban via Zoom.

In the private sector bank category, the winner was Bank Asia while Shahjalal Islami Bank was the joint first runner-up and Brac Bank the joint second runner-up.

In insurance category, Reliance Insurance was the winner while Green Delta Insurance Company and Prime Insurance Company received certificates of merit.

In financial service sector, IDLC Finance was the winner while IPDC Finance and LankaBangla Finance were the joint second runner-up.

In manufacturer category, Orion Pharma was the joint winner while British American Tobacco Bangladesh was the first runner-up and Summit Power got the certificate of merit.

Grameenphone was the winner in communication and information technology category.

In service sector, Unique Hotel and Resort was the second runner-up.

In non-governmental organisation (NGO) and non-profit organisation (NPO) category, Sajida Foundation was the joint first runner-up while Ghashful was the joint second runner-up. CODEC received the certificate of merit.

In agriculture, Golden Harvest Agro Industries was the joint winner.

In public sector category, Investment Corporation of Bangladesh received the certificate of merit.

In Saarc Anniversary Award for Corporate Governance, IDLC Finance was the winner while LankaBangla Finance was the first runner-up and Bank Asia the joint second runner-up.

In integrated reporting, IDLC Finance was the winner while LankaBangla Finance was the second runner-up. Bank Asia received the certificate of merit.

For the Safa Best Published Annual Reports Award competition, 19 Bangladeshi companies nominated by the ICAB participated in 11 out of 13 categories.

This year, 101 companies from Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Nepal and Sri Lanka took part in the competition.

Safa is the association of the national chartered accountancy and cost and management accountancy institutions in Saarc countries.
