The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) will start vaccination of the floating people in Dhaka city and the Qawmi Madrasa students on Sunday with a single dose of Johnson & Johnson jab.

Dr Shamsul Haque, member secretary of the Covid-19 Vaccine Deployment Committee of the DGHS, told this to The Business Standard.

The vaccination programme will be inaugurated by vaccinating the Qawmi madrasa students at Mirpur Mohila Madrasha in the capital at 9:00 am while it will start at Kamalapur Railway Station at 7:30 pm. The time will be fixed from Monday, Dr Shamsul added.

According to two Dhaka city corporations and non-governmental organisations, there are 2 lakh to 2.5 lakh floating people in the city. This number is not any static one as people come for work and leave the city after that, said Dr Shamsul.

"We will bring everyone under the vaccine coverage."

At present, the government has 3.36 lakh doses of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine in hand.

"The vaccination of Qawmi madrasa students, however, will kick off in the morning," Dr Shamsul Haque said, adding that the list of students will determine the number of students who will get the shot.

Qawmi students aged 12 years to 18 Years will get Pfizer vaccine, he added.

Daily Covid deaths rise to 36

Bangladesh reported 36 more deaths and 8,359 new cases of Covid-19 in the past 24 hours till 8 am Saturday.

The current positivity rate went up to 23.83%, up from previous day's 22.95%, as 35,074 samples were tested across the country during the single-day.
