Universal Amity, a charity organisation that runs on donations, is celebrating one year anniversary of its Food for Good project.
Universal Amity started the project in Mirpur 1 area of the capital on 6 June, 2020. reads a press release.
Since that day, the volunteers of the organisation have been cooking in their home following hygiene rules and handing out food to starving people.
Universal Amity volunteers have been delivering food to 50-100 helpless people every night.
"The helplessness of destitute and starving people is skyrocketing. So we want to put a piece of food to support them. And Universal Amity is trying to keep it going," said president of the organisation Mehdi Hasan.
Apart from that, Universal Amity relief to remote areas of the country in case of any disaster played an important role during cyclone Ampan and Yaas.
Universal Amity has taken part in relief and rescue operations outside the regular activities on Koyra under Khulna district, Maharajpur, Dakshin Bedkashi, Matbari, Sutarkhali, and more.
The 'Post Yaas Food Distribution Program' began on 26 May with the delivery of food items to 500 families. With everyone's cooperation, it was possible to stand by the side of a few more people.
Some of the regular activities of Universal Amity
Under this program, Universal Amity has provided 44 sewing machines across the country including Ulipur Upazila of Kurigram district.
The Income aid initiative was taken to support people who wanted to do something for their family, but could not find any source of income.
In addition to sewing machines, weight machines, livestock or vans have been purchased.
Ramadan and Eid gifts
Iftar and dinner have been arranged in orphanages in remote areas of the country during Ramadan. The program was carried out by locating orphanages that are far from the city and receive little to no institutional support.
Besides, on the occasion of Eid, clothes were distributed to helpless parents all over the country. At the same time, Eid gift items (vermicelli, sugar, milk, soap, raisins) were distributed to share the joy of Eid.
25 houses have been built through Universal Amity's Safe Shelter project for helpless people. Besides, Universal Amity has played a role in the construction and reconstruction of mosques in different places.
So far, Universal Amity has installed 56 tube wells across the country to provide safe water. Somewhere placed alongside the road or beside mosques so common people of the areas had access to safe drinking water.
Beyond the regular-listed project work, Universal Amity always comes forward with any need of human beings from social responsibility. At the call of a father the volunteers sometimes organise-arrange the weddings for their daughters. Universal Amity has also taken on the responsibility of providing a student with reading materials, from books to other things.
