Sudden fever, 2 members of a family die in Munshiganj
Local people doubt that the deaths might be caused by coronavirus
Two members of a family, including a child, have died of a sudden fever in Munshiganj.
On Sunday, the duo died in 17 hours apart at Jasaldia area in Louhajang upazila. The deceased were identified as Mir Abdur Rahman, 3, son of Mir Sohel, and Sohel's sister-in-law Shamima Begum, 34.
Different news reports said both of them died due to sudden fever. The death of the two of a single family within a short interval created fear among the residents of the area.
Many doubted the deaths might be caused by coronavirus – a deadly virus that killed 81 people globally and affected over 3,000 as of Monday.
However, Munshiganj Civil Surgeon Abul Kalam Azad told The Business Standard that the symptoms in both the deceased did not primarily verify that the death was caused by coronavirus.
"We have analysed the history of the duo. They never went to China. People have doubts because there are Chinese citizens in the construction site of the Padma Bridge in Munshiganj," he said.
He added the Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) will collect samples from the dead bodies and clarify the reason of the deaths.
Dr ASM Alamgir, the chief scientific officer of the IEDCR, said, "We have already sent an investigation team to Munshiganj. But there is little chance that they died of coronavirus."
