Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is the most successful, brave and humane statesperson in Bangladesh post-1975.
"She has been the president of the party for more than four decades but her journey was not a bed of roses. She has united dissension-affected Awami League for the liberation of the people and to bring back democracy," said Quader while addressing as chief guest the inauguration of a documentary on the prime minister on Sunday.
The party's Information and Research Sub-Committee organised the programme entitled "Sheikh Hasina's Four Decades: Irresistible Progress of Changed Bangladesh" on the occasion of Sheikh Hasina's Homecoming Day.
The two-day documentary exhibition is underway on the premises of Bangabandhu Bhaban at Dhanmondi in the capital.
Awami League's Information and Research Secretary Dr Selim Mahmud conducted the programme.
"The trial of Bangabandhu's murderers and war criminals has been possible because of Sheikh Hasina. With her leadership, the country has solved border problems, won the maritime boundary and got the fair share of the Ganges water," Quader said.
He further added that Sheikh Hasina has been able to keep the country at a stable level in this pandemic keeping in mind the lives and livelihoods of the people.
Besides, works on various mega projects are going on, he said, adding that Bangabandhu Tunnel is being constructed along the bottom of a river – the first-ever in South Asia. "Bangladesh today is a role model of development."
Obaidul Quader further said that Bangladesh is moving ahead of Pakistan in all socio-economic indicators except for nuclear bomb under Sheikh Hasina's leadership.
The programme was presided over by Awami League Advisory Council Member Dr Mashiur Rahman. He said, "If we want to maintain the success of Bangladesh, we have to maintain this continuity of leadership."
Former vice chancellor of Dhaka University Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique said through this exhibition, the new generation will be able to know about the history of the struggle for democracy in Bangladesh under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina and the history of change in Bangladesh.
