Section 144 imposed in Munshiganj
Local administration imposed Section-144 at Kamarkhara Bazar in Tongibari upazila and its adjacent areas as two factions of Awami League announced separate programmes at the same venue at the same time on Friday.
The 16-hour embargo on gathering was imposed from 6am, said Tongibari Upazila Nirbahi Officer Hasina Akter.
Amir Hossain, president of Kamarkhara union unit Awami League, and its Vice President Anis Haldar planned to hold meetings at around 9am at Kamarkhara Bazar of Munshiganj.
The administration slapped the ban to avert any clashes centring the programmes between the party activists, the UNO said.
Additional police forces have been deployed in the area to maintain law and order.
