A college-going rape victim died after undergoing two days’ treatment at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) on Sunday night.

The deceased was identified as Yesmin, 24, daughter of Khorshed Alam of Khamarhati village in Purbadhala upazila. She was a second year student of Abu Abbas Degree College in the district.

Police arrested the rapist Alamgir, 24, son of late Hashem Uddin of Bali village in Sreepur upazila. He was a cousin of the victim.

Family members said Alamgir took her to Tarakanda upazila in the name of travel on August 21. He fed her sleeping pill with cake and raped her several times when she became unconscious.

Yesmin became sick on August 22. Alamgir then called her mother and said that she became sick with a boiling temperature.

Later, he brought Yesmin to Shamganj Railway Station and handed her over to her mother and fled.

The next day she was admitted to Netrokona Modern Sadar Hospital from where doctors referred her to MMCH for better treatment, they added.

Tawhidul Islam, officer-in-charge of Purbadhala Police Station, said victim’s mother filed a case against Alamgir and two other unknowns with the police station on Sunday night.

Police conducted a drive at Alamgir’s house and arrested him, the OC added.
