Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud on Sunday said that his ministry is cognizant of the neutral investigation of the case against Prothom Alo Senior Reporter Rozina Islam.

"I will try to find out the truth through an impartial investigation," said the minister while briefing reporters.

"Along with ensuring the free flow of information, we have to abide by the law," he said

Official Secrecy Act exists in different countries of the world. What happened in the Ministry of Health is subject to investigation, the minister added further.

Prothom Alo's Senior Reporter Rozina Islam got bail today after staying behind the bars for six days in a case filed by Health Ministry official under the Official Secrets Act 1923.

Investigative journalist Rozina, known for dozens of ground-breaking reports in her career, was kept confined at the health ministry for more than six hours on 17 May on allegations of taking snapshots of some government documents. Later she was handed over to the police.

Rozina Islam was shown arrested in the case on charges of spiriting away "important" documents on the same night.

Rozina Islam is known for her strong reportage of official corruption. She has recently made several investigative reports revealing corruption in the health sector.
