Stopovers of all the trains, which ply the eastern region of the country, at the Brahmanbaria Railway Station have been suspended indefinitely following the vandalism and arson attack in the railway station on Friday.
The control room of the eastern railways gave instructions to Brahmanbaria Railway Station authorities in this regard at 10.30 am today, said Md Shoaib Ahmed, station master of the railway station.
However, no instruction was given regarding the mail trains, he said.
"Arrangements will be made to refund the train fares to those who had bought inter-city train tickets," he added.
Every day, 14 inter-city trains plying on Dhaka-Chattogram, Dhaka-Sylhet and Dhaka-Noakhaliroutes make stopovers at Brahmanbaria railway station.
Meanwhile, police have arrested 14 people in connection with yesterday's arson attacks and vandalism at various government installations during an anti-Modi protest by madrassa students in Brahmanbaria.
They were detained during raids in various places in the district town from Friday midnight to early Saturday morning.
However, police did not reveal the names of the detainees.
Md Abdur Rahim,officer-in-charge (OC) ofBrahmanbariaSadar Model Police Station, confirming the matter said, "Necessary legal actions are being taken against those involved in the vandalism and arson attacks."
Earlier on Friday, a youth died and 14 others were injured as students of different madrasas in Brahmanbaria clashed with police.
According to locals, in protest of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's ongoing visit to Bangladesh, the agitating madrasa students attacked the Kawtoli police superintendent's office and police outpost No 2.
