  • Ramadan fasting can cause low electrolyte level in blood resulting in lightheadedness.
  • As Ramadan is being observed in summer this year in our country, excessive sweating, decreased fluid intake, prolonged fasting may cause electrolyte imbalance.
  • Fasting for many hours may also lead to decreased blood sugar level.
  • Also, as blood sodium decreases, the body tends to shed blood volume, which may lower blood pressure, and that can also cause lightheadedness, especially when standing up quickly.
  • So it is needed to keep blood sodium and potassium level in the right range or the brain will not function as well.
  • In the time period between iftar and sehri moderate salt supplements along with plenty of water should be taken.
  • The diet should be healthy and nutritious including vegetable, fruits, dairy product, meat and dates.
