Health directorate blacklists 14 contractors

The health directorate has blacklisted 14 medical equipment contractors and suppliers on charge of corruption, fraud and embezzlement.

The Directorate General of Health Services Director (Administration) Dr Md Belal Hossain Thursday issued a circular in this regard.

Data show the 14 suppliers misappropriated Tk131 crore for medical equipment purchase and collection. In 2019, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) sent a letter to the cabinet division to ban the contractors after investigations.

Subsequently on June 6, the health ministry asked the health directorate and Directorate General of Drug Administration to take action according to ACC recommendations.

Meantime, the Anti-Corruption Commission filed nine separate cases against the suppliers for embezzling Tk131 crore.

The banned contractors are – Rubina Khanom of Rahman Trade International and Rupa Fashions, Abdullah Al Mamun of Anik Traders, Munshi Fakhrul Hossen of Ahmed Enterprise, Manjur Ahmed of Manila Medicine and SK Traders, Mosaddek Hosen of HM Pharma, Md Joynal Abedin of Ovi Drugs, Md Alamgir Hosen of Albira Pharmacy, Md Mintu of SM Traders, Md Abdus Sattar Sarker and Md Ahsan Habib of Mercantile Trade International, Mohammad Jaher Uddin Sarker of Bengal Scientific and Surgical Co, Md Asadur Rahman of Universal Trade Corporation, Aftab Ahmed of ASL and Md Moksedul Islam of Bair Aviation.
