Govt urges to use 'Corona Tracer BD' app to curb virus spread

The ICT Division of the government has taken initiatives for using a smartphone app 'Corona Tracer BD' in order to contain the spread of the second wave of Covid-19 pandemic.
Zunaid Ahmed Palak, the state minister, ICT Division, formally unveiled the app on 4 June, through an online video press conference and made a request to the country's people for using the app.
The app was developed by local technology company Shohoz under an initiative of the ICT Division and the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), A2i, SDMGA and IEDCR to bring the people of the country together in its fight against the Covid-19.
The app utilises Bluetooth signal to understand whether a user is near another individual who was tested positive in the past and this will help users find out whether they are at risk of Covid-19.
If a user is found to have been in contact with an infected individual recently, they would receive an alert. If the users' case seems risky, they will be able to seek medical help at the earliest and go into self-isolation.
To use the app, mobile phones have to have data connectivity and the mobile's Bluetooth and location features have to be activated.

In a press release issued on 16 November, the ICT division again made a request to all the officials and staff of the division and concerned departments, offices under the division for using the app.
