Govt to procure 1.60 lakh tonnes of fertiliser, 12,500 tonnes of sugar

The government has approved separate proposals for procuring about 1.60 lakh tonnes of fertiliser and 12,500 tonnes of sugar to meet the growing demands in the country.
 
The approval came from a virtual meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) held on Thursday chaired by Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal.
 
While briefing reporters virtually after the meeting, Cabinet Division's Additional Secretary Sayed Mahbub Khan said, "Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) would procure around 1 lakh tonnes of Muriate of Potash (MOP) fertiliser from Belgrade with a cost of Tk907 crore at a rate of $854 per tonne."
 
"On the other hand, Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC), under the Ministry of Industries, would procure some 30,000 tonnes of bulk granular urea fertiliser from Muntajat, Qatar under the 10th lot with a cost of around Tk202 crore. The price of this fertiliser would be $624.17 per tonne which was $626.67 per tonne earlier," he said.
 
He further said that the BCIC would procure another 30,000 tonnes of bagged granular urea fertiliser from KAFCO, Bangladesh under the eighth lot with a cost of around Tk191 crore. The price of this fertiliser would be $597.37 per tonne which was $655 per tonne earlier.
 
The Additional Secretary informed that the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) would procure some 12,500 tonnes of sugar from Brazil involving a cost of Tk66 crore at a rate of $524.21 per tonne.
 
JMI Export and Import Company would act as the local agent in this procurement, he added.
