The government will honour five women at national level on the occasion of International Women's Day. 

State Minister of Women and Children Affairs Fazilatun Nessa Indira will present medals to them during the celebration at the Bangladesh Shishu Academy auditorium on 8 March.  

Each of the awardees will also receive a Tk1 lakh cheque, crest and certificate.  The programme will be aired on Bangladesh Television and Bangladesh Betar.

The minister informed the matter at a press conference today at the Secretariat.

"Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will join the celebration of International Women's Day as the chief guest at the Shishu Academy auditorium through video conference from Ganobhaban at 10.30 am," said Minister Indira.

This time the theme of the day is "Women Leadership amid Coronavirus, A New World of Equality Will Be Built."

The state minister for women's affairs said women of all walks of life, including doctors, nurses, administration and law enforcement, played an important role in Bangladesh during the pandemic period.

This time, Hasina Begum Neela of Barishal, Miftahul Jannat of Bogura, Mosammat Helenncha Begum of Patuakhali, Rabizan of Tangail and Anjana Bala Biswas of Narail will be honoured as the best winners.

Special supplements and memoranda with the words of President Md Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will be published.
