The Appellate Division has stayed for four weeks a High Court order that granted bail to Erfan Salim, son of Dhaka-7 lawmaker Haji Salim, in a case filed over assaulting a Navy officer.

Chamber Judge of the Appellate Division Justice Obaidul Hassan passed the order on Sunday after hearing the state's appeal against the High Court order.

Additional Attorney General Sheikh Mohammad Morshed appeared for the state in the court, while Erfan was represented by Advocate Sayed Ahmed Raza.

Earlier, On 18 March, the High Court granted bail to Erfan in the case.

On 25 October last year, Erfan allegedly assaulted a navy officer and his wife near the Kalabagan crossing in Dhanmondi area after the officer's motorcycle collided with a car carrying Erfan and his bodyguard.

The officer filed a case with the Dhanmondi Police Station against Erfan and others a day later. Erfan was arrested on the same day.

Erfan's bail application in the case was rejected by a Dhaka court on 27 December last year. Erfan then appealed in the High Court, which granted him bail on 18 March this year.
