The country's LPG industry is going to be destroyed due to Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission's (BERC) one-sided price order, said the LPG Operators Association of Bangladesh (LOAB).

The association made the statement today at a press conference in the capital's Intercontinental Hotel.

Azam J Chowdhury, president of LOAB, said that if the government wants the sector to continue, it should offer a realistic price.

On 12 April this year, BERC for the first time fixed the retail price of LPG provided by both public and private operators.

After the order, many dealers and distributors across the country stopped retailing LPG cylinders, he claimed.

He said that fixing the price of the product based on the previous month's Saudi Aramco's Contract Price (CP) was irrational.

He added that if the sector faces any damage and the government faces any embarrassment, BERC will be responsible for that.

Representatives from Omera LPG, Orion LPG, Bashundhara LPG, Jamuna LPG and JMI LPG were present at the programme.
