The power division of the power, energy and mineral resources ministry has instructed the power distribution companies to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply  during Ramadan and will keep free iftar, tarabi, sehri times from load-shedding.

The instruction was given at an inter-ministerial meeting on the overall situation on electricity supply during upcoming Ramadan and the current summer at the Power Bhaban on Tuesday.

While addressing the meeting as chief guest, Prime Minister's Energy Advisor Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury urged all concerned to be more economical in using power and energy.

With a united effort by all, it is possible to solve any problem quickly, he added. Power secretary Habibur Rahman presided over the meeting.

The power division also asked all the entities to keep an adequate number of transformers in their reserves to avoid any interruption in power supply due to technical faults.

The meeting also instructed the gas production entities to increase gas supply to power plants in a bid to keep power supply normal during Ramadan.

All the distribution companies were also instructed to inspect and replace the overloaded transformers and keep adequate stock of transformers in the store.

It also asked all to replace the CFL bulbs with LED bulbs to prevent wastage of electricity and not to use extra lights in supermarkets, petrol pumps and CNG gas stations and to limit the use of AC in shopping malls, departmental stores and other commercial establishments during Iftar and tarabi.

The power division also instructed all the power distribution companies to remain alert so that any technical fault or interruption in power supply cannot take place.

Senior Secretary of the energy division Mahbub Hossain, Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) Chairman Md Mahbubur Rahman, Rural Electrification Board Chairman Md Selim Uddin, Petrobangla Chairman Nazmul Ahsan and Power Cell Director General Mohammad Hossain were among others present in the meeting.
