The Dhaka University authorities have decided to hold the year-end examinations virtually if the Covid situation does not change favourably by July.
DU Pro vice-chancellor Prof ASM Maksud Kamal confirmed the matter to The Business Standard, saying the decision was taken at a meeting of the deans' committee on Wednesday afternoon.
He said the administration expects to take the examinations in person from 1 July if the Covid situation improves by then. However, the examinations will be held online in due time if the situation does not improve.
He also disclosed that the deans of the faculties and the directors of the institutes have been entrusted with formulating a strategy aimed at ensuring the acceptability of the examination and students' participation.
They were asked to submit the strategy paper within two weeks.
At the same time, the teachers will be provided with the necessary training about taking online examinations.
These decisions will soon be approved at a special meeting of the University's Academic Council, added Prof Maksud Kamal.
Due to Covid induced adverse situation, the normal academic activities at the university have been shut since 18 March last year.
