The authority of Begum Rokeya University in Rangpur has banned all kinds of rallies, silent processions and agitations in front of Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah's residence and all administrative buildings on campus.
The decision was taken in a syndicate meeting on Saturday morning and the directives were issued in a letter signed by University Registrar Abu Hena Mostafa Kamal.
He confirmed the matter to The Business Standard and said, "the decision was taken to restore law and order in the university. Legal action will be taken against violators of the directive".
Various social and cultural organisations, including the university's teachers' union, have protested against the decision. Meanwhile, Bangladesh Chhatra League's Begum Rokeya University unit has given an ultimatum till Sunday to withdraw the decision of the university administration.
President of Bangladesh Chhatra League's Begum Rokeya University unit Tushar Kibria said, "the decision was taken to suppress various problems at the university caused by the absence of Vice-chancellor Prof Dr Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah".
