Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), on Wednesday, said legal action will be taken if it finds programmes – involving gatherings and the use of loudspeakers – are held without permission.

Nowadays, different parties frequently arrange social, political and religious gatherings on public roads and use loudspeakers – without the permission of the authority, according to the DMP's press release.

These types of programmes create a hindrance to public movement as they block roads and create traffic congestion.

As per the constitution, every legal political party or community has the right to call for gatherings – or programmes – peacefully and unarmed, but it must ensure other citizens' convenience.

The DMP will take legal action against programmes involving illegal gatherings that create a hindrance to public movement and safety, as per the press release.

The DMP has asked for the public's cooperation to ensure public safety and peace in the city.
