Dhaka North mayor asks landowners to clean up surroundings by 10 April
The mayor said he will file cases against those who fail to clean up
Dhaka North Mayor Md Atiqul Islam has requested landowners to clean ponds, reservoirs, abandoned land, etc. by 10 April and warned that he will file cases against those who fail to clean up as per the instructions.
Dhaka North authorities will send a letter in this regard to landowners who have ponds, reservoirs, abandoned places, etc., on their land by 3 April, the mayor said at a view-exchange meeting. It was held at Dhaka North's Nagar Bhaban in Gulshan, on Saturday, as a part of the integrated mosquito eradication campaign.
He instructed the regional executive officers to prepare a list of ponds, reservoirs, abandoned land, etc., in each ward and submit it by 27 March.
Guiding mosquito eradication activities ahead of the coming monsoon season, the mayor said, "I wanted to see the presence of our 1,200 mosquito extermination workers during the campaign, but I did not find all [present]."
So, each mosquito supervisor and councillor has to ensure the biometric attendance of the workers in his ward, he added.
He set 20 April as the deadline for regional executives to set up biometric attendance and trackers.
He added that theoretical and practical training will be provided for area-based mosquito eradication workers.
The mayor also asked ward councillors, road inspectors, assistant chief waste management officers, entomologists, and assistant health officials to locate mosquito hotspots.
Initiatives will be taken to increase public awareness on Aedes mosquito control from April. Mosquito exterminators will be deployed according to the size and population density of the wards, he added.
On the occasion of Mujib Year, he announced that the ward councillor and his team of the cleanest and least mosquito-infested ward will be awarded a gold medal in December.
In the meeting chaired by the mayor, officers, employees, and workers of different departments of Dhaka North expressed their views on the integrated mosquito eradication activities held on 8-16 March.
