Dhaka North City Corporation has begun a 10-day drive against dengue with warning from its mayor that stern action will be taken if aedes larvae found in and around any house or construction site within the north city area.

"We warned owners of houses and construction sites of stern action over aedes breeding hotspots during our first round of dengue drive," said Dhaka North's Mayor Atiqul Islam, while inaugurating the second round of drive on Sunday at Sher-e-Bangla cricket Stadium gate in the capital.

Dhaka north will take stern legal action if aedes larvae found in any house, said the mayor.

Earlier, the Dhaka North completed a 10-day drive, starting from August 25. During the drive, aedes larvae were found in 2,013 houses and other structures.

It also found stagnant water favorable of aedes breeding in 67,758 houses and installations which was destroyed.

"We did not fine the owners in the first round, but none will be spared this time, if any aedes breeding hotspot found," said the mayor.

The mayor asked all to keep the passages clean, while ensuring that no water is kept in any type of pots inside or outside of houses for more than three days.

Atiqul Islam also said, a special drive and mobile court will be conducted round the year to destroy aedes mosquito breeding hubs. Each of the 36 wards of Dhaka North will be divided into 10 blocks, each blocks being divided into 10 sub-blocks; a team of 10 members will work in every sub-block to kill aedes mosquitos and destroy aedes breeding hotspots, officials said in this regard.
