Five-day ‘Green Together’ exhibition ends
Danish Ambassador in Dhaka Winnie Estrup Petersen on Wednesday said as a frontrunner in green economic growth and a leader in clean technologies, Denmark is well-positioned to serve as a knowledge partner for Bangladesh on its journey towards a greener and more sustainable society.
She came up with the remarks at the closing ceremony of the five-day "Green Together" exhibition held by the Denmark embassy in Bangladesh to highlight commercially viable green solutions that can support sustainable and inclusive economic growth in Bangladesh.
"The 'Green Together' exhibition embodies and shares with a Bangladeshi audience Denmark's understanding of sustainability, which is a holistic approach to the environment and lifestyle, and also includes social goals like responsible business, good governance, equality, and inclusion,'' Winnie Estrup Petersen said.
"For the past four decades, Denmark has managed to grow its economy all the while lowering CO2 emissions and resource consumption, proving that it is possible to have a green economy that also creates more jobs."
Denmark's ambitious goals to reduce carbon footprint and achieve sustainable growth are globally relevant, especially in a fast-growing economy like Bangladesh, she added.
Addressing the programme as the chief guest, State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak said Bangladesh always welcomes green technologies and is working to cut carbon emissions.
Accordingly, the government has stopped 10 coal-based power plants which was a big decision.
He added the government is committed to fighting climate change and working to secure a better environment for the next generation.
