Bus driver Shahid Mia has confessed to attempting to rape a college student on a moving bus in Sunamganj during primary interrogation.

The information was revealed on Sunday through a press release issued by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

On 26 December, the victim was going to Sunamganj's Diraipur from Lamakazi on a bus of "Fahad and Maysha Paribahan" when Shahid and his associates attempted to rape her, according to the press release.

On Saturday, members of CID arrested the prime accused Shahid from the old bus stand in Sunamganj district town.

Earlier on 27 December, Sylhet Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) arrested the bus helper Rashid Ahmed from Chhatak's Burairgaon late at night.

On 26 December, when the victim was the only one left on the bus near Dirai's Pataria area, culprit Shahid Mia attempted rape.

However, when the victim cried for help, people tried to stop the vehicle. Seeing this and failing in his attempt to rape, Shahid Mia pushed the girl off the moving vehicle to kill her at Sujanhagar in Sunamganj's Dirai municipality area.

The fall injured her critically.

Later, the locals rescued the victim from the side of the road and sent her to Osmani Medical College Hospital

The girl's father filed a case against the bus driver and his assistant under the Women and Child Abuse Act at the Dirai police station on the same night.
