The detective branch of police has arrested 10 members of a syndicate for issuing driving licences prepared with fake documents in connivance with a section of BRTA staff.

The DB Lalbagh division arrested them on Monday and Tuesday from different parts of the capital.

The DB Additional Police Commissioner AKM Hafiz Akter made the disclosure at a press conference at the DMP media centre in the city on Wednesday.

The police said the rate of road accidents has increased manifold in recent times due to this type of fake driving licence which is available for Tk10,000 to Tk12,000.

AKM Hafiz said that during probing some of the recent fatal accidents, issues of lacking driving skills and easy availability of illegal driving licence came to light.

Police have also nabbed a syndicate of officials at the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) involved with the fake documentation racket.

The syndicate used to provide forged police verification and dope test reports and submit the applications to the bribed BRTA officials at the Diabari office.
