Police have arrested Kamrul Hasan, who was supposed to receive the foreign parcel containing two pistols and 60 rounds of cartridges, from his father-in-law's house at Halishahar of Chattogram on Monday night.

He is a lower-grade income tax staffer.

"As Kamrul is a government employee, we arrested him with the permission of the tax commissioner concerned," said Kazi Mohammad Tareq Aziz, assistant police commissioner for Bandar zone. "Now, primary interrogation is going on. We will take further steps later."

Earlier on Sunday, Chattogram Customs House filed a case over bringing the pistols from Italy. Assistant Revenue officer of the customs unit Delwar Hossain filed the lawsuit with Bandar Police Station, immediately after seizing the weapons.

From Rajib Barua Munna the parcel was sent from Italy to one Kamrul Hasan of CGS Colony at Agrabad in Chattogram, according to the case document. Two more replica-like pistols were also found in the carton. The village home of the weapon sender Munna is in Raozan in Chattogram.
