ACC on hunt for Papiya’s assets

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has started searching for assets of Shamima Nur Papiya, expelled general secretary of Jubo Mohila League's Narsingdi district unit.

The anti-graft watchdog assigned an investigation officer for the task, said ACC Chairman Iqbal Mahmud while briefing media at the commission's head office on Thursday.

"We will look into how she amassed so much wealth. We will not spare those who will be found involved with her," said the chairman of the anti-graft body.

On February 22, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Papiya and her husband along with their accomplices from the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport with counterfeit notes, foreign currencies and around Tk2.5 lakh in cash.

The RAB later raided Papiya's Farmgate flats and recovered a foreign-made pistol, two magazines, 20 rounds of bullets, five bottles of foreign-made liquor and Tk58,41,000 in cash, credit and debit cards of different banks from there. Three separate cases were filed.

On Monday, a Dhaka court placed Papiya and her husband Suman on 15-day remand each in three cases.
