Writ filed for HC directive on opening educational institutions
According to the writ, all educational institutions have remained closed since 17 March last year, and closures have been extended 11 times
A writ has been filed with the High Court for directive on opening educational institutions remaining closed since 17 March due to Covid-19.
Counsel Farooq Alamgir Chowdhury lodged the petition with the concerned branch of the High Court on Thursday on behalf of Bhawal Mirzapur Public School and College Principal Abdul Qayyum Sarkar.
The lawyer told reporters that the HC bench of Justice Khasruzzaman and Justice Md Mahmud Hassan Talukder will hear the writ petition.
Education secretary, director general and deputy secretary of the Department of Education, University Grants Commission chairman and six others have been made defendants.
Earlier, the government was served a legal notice on 11 January to reopen all the academic institutes, but getting no reply from the government, the writ was filed yesterday.
In the legal notice, the government had been requested not to extend the closure after 16 January as the long shut of academia has already led to irreparable losses.
According to the petition, all educational institutions have remained closed since 17 March last year, and closures have been extended 11 times.
In its latest move, the government extended the closure till 30 January.
