HC staffer suspended for leaving workstation amid pandemic

The administration of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court has suspended Anwar Sadat Khan, a member of lower subordinate staff (MLSS), on charges of absence from work amid coronavirus outbreak.

The branch concerned of the High Court issued an office order in this regard on Monday.

The order said Anwar Sadat was working at the residence of High Court Justice Mahmudul Hoque.

After the court declared a public holiday on March 26 due to coronavirus, he was asked to stay at his home in Dhaka instead of coming to work due to health risks and safety. But he disobeyed and went to his own house in Mymensingh. He did not communicate after that.

Leaving the workplace in disobedience of instructions, absence in the workplace without permission, negligence in duty etc are arrogant behaviour and are against office discipline.

He was suspended for misconduct and punishable offences according to the High Court Employees (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1983.
