The Bangladesh Embassy in Beijing, China celebrated the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Children's Day with due respect.

On the occasion of the birth centenary and National Children's Day, the Bangladesh Embassy organised various programs throughout the day, said a press release.

On Wednesday, ambassador Mahbub Uz Zaman started the activities by hoisting the flag. A prayer was held for Bangabandhu and his family members, the forgiveness of the souls of the martyrs of the liberation war and for the progress and prosperity of Bangladesh.

After that, the ambassador, along with all officers and officials of the embassy, paid respect to the memory of Bangabandhu by laying a floral wreath at his portrait situated in the newly constituted Bangabandhu Corner and Library of the embassy.

Messages from the President and the Prime Minister, Foreign Minister, and State Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh on the occasion were read-out.

Officers of the embassy later participated in discussions on Bangabandhu. Ambassador Mahbub-Uz-Zaman in his speech paid glowing tribute to Bangabandhu for his relentless struggle against all forms of discrimination and exploitation.

A webinar in commemoration of the birth centenary titled "Bangabandhu, A great Visionary: The Architect of Independence and Prosperous Bangladesh"conducted by the Minister of Bangladesh Embassy in China M Nazrul Islam was held later.

Bangladesh Ambassador to China Mahbub Uz Zaman, Chai Xi, the former China Ambassador to Bangladesh Chai Xi, China Media Group in Bangladesh Chief Correspondent Yu Guangyue Anandi, China Media Group Bangla Chief Cao Yanhua Soborna and Beijing Foreign Studies University faculty Prof Zeng Qiong Soma delivered their speeches.

All the guest speakers highlighted the visit of Bangabandhu to China in the year 1952 and 1957 and on his travel account reflected in the book "Amar Dekha Naya Chin"(The New China in my Eyes).

Ambassador Mahbub-Uz-Zaman highlighted the charismatic leadership of Bangabandhu through which he initiated the movement of emancipation of the people of Bangladesh and materialised the same within his lifetime.

He said that the dream of Bangabandhu of building a self-reliant "Sonar Bangla" (Golden Bengal) is being realised under the prudent leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

In the evening, a drawing competition and cultural programme were held at the newly formed Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall of the embassy.
