Depending on the shoulders of Hefazat-e-Islam, leaders and activists of BNP and Jamaat have carried out the mayhem in Brahmanbaria district, alleged an Ashuganj upazila unit Awami League leader.

Ashuganj upazila Awami League's Joint Convener Abu Naser Ahmed came up with this allegation at a press conference at Ashuganj Press Club on Tuesday afternoon.

In a written speech, he said it is not an Islamic behaviour to carry out vandalism, arson attacks, and destroy national property. The attackers are BNP, Jamaat and intruders to Awami League who still cannot accept Bangladesh. Hence, they wreaked this havoc during the hartal.

The leader further said, "Islam does not support this mayhem. Those who have done this heinous incident are against humanity and the country. We demand an exemplary punishment of the attackers."

He also urged the mass people to speak out against the anti-independence and extremist fundamentalists.

Ashuganj Sadarunion parishad Chairman Md Salah Uddin, Talshahar union parishad Chairman Abu Shama, Araisidha union parishad Chairman Selim Mia, Durgapur union parishad Chairman Ziaul Karim Saju, and Ashuganj upazila Awami League members Abu Rizvi and Rubel Sikder were present at the press conference.

On 28 March, the activists of Hefazat-e-Islam went berserk in Brahmanbaria during the hartal and attacked Zilla Parishad, district Awami League office, press club, land office, municipality offices, and some other private organisations. They also attacked Khatihata highway police station in Sarail.

Three hartal supporters were killed and dozens injured after they clashed with police and BGB in the district on the hartal day.
